An Insider's Guide to St Ives
As promised last week, Jayde from St Ives has put together an account of her lockdown walking activities in the fantastic St Ives. Enjoy!
‘I am lucky enough to be "locked down" in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK and as the end of lockdown 2.0 approaches I wanted to share with you some of the amazing walks I've been on since the beginning of November.
At the beginning of the month I set myself a "lockdown" challenge, to walk a minimum of 5k a day. It was a great challenge that meant I could get my daily exercise and discover new places in the town I call home.
St Ives is so much more than the beautiful Porthmeor beach and harbour that most people photograph,it has some incredible countryside and coastal walks.
The path from The Garrack Hotel to the Zennor coastal path is one of my all time faves. Absolutely breathtaking scenery as far as the eye can see, but you do need to be careful when it's wet. I did slip and slide a few times over the last couple of weeks!
Just past Porthminster beach there is the coastal path to Carbis Bay which is a great path to walk on as a way of escaping the St Ives beaches and it is always reasonably quiet too (more so during lockdown) but during peak times its a great place to escape the crowds.
"The lanes" behind the main town and Carbis Bay that lead up to the steeple are set in beautiful Cornish countryside and are full of rugged pathways, woodland and horses. These lanes were one of the more frequent paths I walked during the week after dropping my son off at school. There is a little cut through not far from his school and after about 6km it leads me back to St Ives.
I hope that on your next visit to St Ives / Cornwall, you take yourself off the beaten track, get lost and discover there is so much more than what is advertised in brochures.’
